Mix Bar Reading No34 in the 50 Best Bars 2009 by The Independent

5th June 2008
Mix and 42 Below Vodka will be serving exclusive cocktails to a celeb studded event held by the French designer Jean Charles de Castelbajac at the opening of his UK flagship store on Conduit Street, featuring the store's centerpiece: a Rubik's Cube till.

Designed by Castelbajac and architect Christian Ghion, the installation is the only one of its kind in the world. Its retro cool will doubtlessly prove the perfect backdrop for the designer's signature witty-yet-wearable creations - the store will house his fashion collections, luggage, sunglasses, shoes, headwear and stationary when it opens.

Mix is endeavouring to move Reading towards decent, bespoke cocktails. Its staff exhibit an infectious enthusiasm for and knowledge of sprits. Underlying both the drinks and the atmosphere is an ethos that demands a friendly, jokey but professional approach from the staff.

This place genuinely feels resolutely un-Reading, conspicuously non-corporate and gloriously glamorous.
